Tahoe Short Term Rental Permit Information - Placer County

 

There are currently 3243 Licensed Short-Term Rental properties in Placer County...

The current cap is 3,900 STR permits.

Once the cap is met, a Waitlist will be created.

  • To apply, update, or renew your application or permit, please follow this link: www.placer.ca.gov/STR 
  • Beginning 4/1/2024, all new applicants and renewals will be required to have both passing fire inspections. If you do not have both passing inspections at the time of renewal your permit will not be renewed. You will have to reapply once you have both inspections completed.
  • The ordinance requires all STRs to provide a landline or VOIP as a safety precaution.
  • You must hold a Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) Certificate
  • Proof of Bear Bin/Dumpster
  • There is a Short-Term Rental Application fee of $306

Don't Forget! STR permits are NOT transferable for any reason even if you own multiple properties. The STR permit runs with the owner for a specific property and is not transferable to another property.
